Nature & Historical Tours

Just north of Sea Trail in the port city of Wilmington, discover the charm of this Southern treasure. Walking and carriage tours of the historic district are available. Experience cobblestone and brick s
treets, live oaks and historic landmarks such as the Battleship, the Bellamy Mansion and the Latimer House dating back to the mid 1800's.
The
Battleship North Carolina also located in Wilmington, is open for tours. This 'Showboat' was the most decorated battleship of World War II. Much of the ship's nine decks are open to the public. On self-guided
tours, you can enter gun turrets, inspect the bridge, view the crew's quarters and tour the engine room.

Orton Plantation, situated on the Cape Fear River near Southport, just 30 miles north of Sea Trail, was built in 1725. Self-guided tours of the 20-acre gardens are available and take approximately 1 hour.

Fort Fisher Civil War Museum - Take a short drive to Southport and catch the ferry over to Fort Fisher. Stroll the beach trails and see the remains of this fort that kept the Cape Fear River and the port of Wilmington open to blockade runners. The fort fell on January 15, 1865. Admission is free.

Brookgreen Gardens - South of Sea Trail, near Myrtle Beach, visit the beautifully landscaped gardens and more than 2,000 species and subspecies of plants native to the Southeastern United States. Also, the largest outdoor display of American figurative sculpture in the world -- more than 550 works by over 300 artists -- can be enjoyed in every season.

This is just a partial listing of the nature and historical tours available in our area. For more information please visit or call our Village Activity Center (910-287-1160) or visit our Area Attractions.
